Box Score 2 The Centre volleyball team held its final matches of the regular season in Alumni Gym as they took on the Hanover Panthers and the Brescia Bearcats as part of its annual Halloween Bash. The Colonels came away with a pair of straight-set victories.
The match with Hanover was closely contested throughout. The Colonels trailed Hanover 23-21 in a first set that went back and forth for the duration, but with the help of a pair of kills from Jessica Peak (Owensboro, Ky.), Centre was able to finish off the Panthers with four straight points to end the set with a 25-23 win. Centre played most of the second set from behind, but used a run of eight consecutive points to grab the lead and hold on for a 25-22 victory. The third set unfolded in a similar fashion to the second, as Centre trailed 18-13, but then scored nine points in a row to take the lead for good, winning by a score of 25-21.
Beth Cecil (Bardstown, Ky.) led the way for Centre with 13 kills, followed by Abbigale Jacobi (Louisville, Ky.) with eight. Elizabeth Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished the match with 32 of the team's 35 assists. Erin McGrath (Louisville, Ky.) led a balanced effort for the Colonels with 13 digs.
Against Brescia, the Colonels got off to a slow start in the first set, but closed strong, finishing with 11 of the final 13 points to win by a score of 25-18. Centre quickly scored the first four points of the second set and gradually built a comfortable lead, eventually winning 25-17. The third set was the easiest on the nerves as Centre jumped out to a 6-1 lead and never led by less than three, pulling away for a 25-14 to finish the match.
Abbi Jacobi led Centre with 11 kills as ten players recorded kills in the match. Elizabeth Janszen again led the way in assists, this time recording 35. Erin McGrath posted a team high 18 digs.
