Box Score The Centre College women's soccer team has advanced to the second round of the SAA Tournament with a 5-1 win over Birmingham Southern in a first round match Friday, Nov. 7 in Danville, Ky.
With the win, the Colonels improve to 13-5-1 overall, while the Panthers season ends at 9-8-1.
Junior Elizabeth Mason (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) opened the scoring 8:58 into the match win an unassisted goal, her first of the season.
Sophomore Shannon Murray (Harrodsburg, Ky.) made it 2-0 after she found the back of the net at the 25:13 mark. The score was her third of the year.
Centre got a third unasssisted goal to cap the half from junior Shelby Ratcliff (Georgetown, Ky.). Like Mason, it was Ratcliff's first goal of the season.
Murray added another goal early in the second half and then followed with her third to complete the hat trick just over six minutes after Birmingham Southern scored it's lone goal of the match. Junior Alex Combs (Danville, Ky.) had the assist on Murray's second goal.
Once again, the Colonels controlled the action for much of the match. Centre out-shot the Panthers 19-5 and had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Olivia Alford (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Sarah Youkliss (Lexington, Ky.) combined for the win in goal. Alford made four saves in the win.
The Colonels, who have now scored 19 goals in their last four matches, will next square off against top seeded Berry College Saturday, Nov. 8. Start time for the SAA Semifinal match is set for 12 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
