Box Score The Centre men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Birmingham-Southern on a first half penalty kick in a Southern Athletic Association semifinal match on Saturday in Conway, Ark.
The decisive moment came in the 36th minute when Birmingham-Southern's Dominik Faber was taken down and the Panthers awarded a penalty kick. Bastian Jadliczka converted the opportunity for what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Coming into the game, Centre had beaten Birmingham-Southern 1-0 in their previous three meetings, including a 1-0 result in Danville in October.
Centre held a 15-11 overall edge in shots and took 14 corners to the Panthers five, but the Colonels were unable to find a goal. Ohan Missirian-Dill (Brentwood, Tenn.) made four saves in net for Centre, while Jonas Heidrich also had four stops for Birmingham-Southern. Senior defender Jeremy Carlson (Seattle, Wash.) was Centre's representative on the SAA All-Tournament Team.
With the loss, Centre falls to 8-4-6 on the year while Birmingham-Southern improves to 13-3-1. BSC will meet Berry, a 1-0 winner over No. 1-seeded Millsaps in Saturday's other semifinal, for the championship on Sunday.
