Box Score The Centre women's basketball team turned in a dominant performance in handing Hendrix an 81-38 loss in a Southern Athletic Association game Friday in Danville, Ky.
Paige Baechle (Gallatin, Tenn.) scored a game-high 16 points, all coming as Centre pulled away in the first half. Alanna Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) added 15 points while Alexis Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) had 13 points off the bench and Mary Gordon Stough (Louisville, Ky.) added 12. Estrella Flores led Hendrix with nine points.
Centre left little doubt about the outcome of the game from the beginning. The Colonels were holding onto an early 3-2 lead when a pair of Maggie Hartlage (Louisville, Ky.) free throws started a 15-0 run.
Centre kept rolling throughout the first half, allowing just one field goal in the final 10 minutes and holding Hendrix to 16 percent (4-of-25) shooting. Over that stretch, Centre outscored the Warriors 24-4 to take a 48-10 lead to halftime. Centre led by as many as 46 points when an Alanna Guy 3-pointer made the score 64-18 with 10 minutes to play.
Centre led all the statistical categories, shooting 43 percent (23-of-54) to the Warriors' 23 percent (13-of-56) while outrebounding Hendrix 45-35. Centre turned the ball over 18 times while forcing 27 Hendrix turnovers.
Centre moves to 16-8 overall and 10-3 in the SAA while Hendrix drops to 11-13 overall and 5-8 in league play. The Colonels wrap up the regular season when they host Rhodes at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
