Box Score The Centre women's basketball team is moving on in the 2014 SAA Tournament after defeating the Hendrix Warriors for the third time this season, this time by a score of 64-50 in their quarterfinal matchup.
Senior Paige Baechle (Gallatin, Tenn.) led the way for the Colonels with 22 points and 11 rebounds, both high marks for the game. Junior Maggie Hartlage (Louisville, Ky.) added 18 points, while junior Alanna Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) scored 11.
The Colonels held the Warriors to 32% shooting for the game and forced 16 Hendrix turnovers. Centre also connected on seven of their 11 three-point attempts for 63.6%.
Centre played from behind for most of the second half, falling behind 18-8 with nearly five minutes remaining. The colonels used an 11-1 run to tie the score with three minutes to go, led by eight consecutive points by Paige Baechle and a three by sophomore Alexis Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio). Centre stretched the halftime lead to five with a three-point play by Alanna Guy with one second remaining.
The lead reached double figures for the first time on a layup by Maggie Hartlage with 13 minutes remaining, and Hendrix would get no closer than six points the rest of the way, as Baechle and the Guy sisters provided timely baskets in the face of every attempted Warrior run.
The Colonels will advance to play Millsaps in the semifinals. The Majors advanced to the semifinals with a win over Oglethorpe.
