Box Score The Centre College women's basketball team trailed by 10 at halftime, but outscored Berry 52-26 in the second half to defeat the Vikings 80-64 Sunday, Feb. 9 in Danville, Ky.
After scoring the first point of the game on a free throw, the Colonels fell behind 9-3 just over three and a half minutes into the game.
Berry's lead grew to 10 at the 13:00 minute mark, but Centre scored the next six points to cut the deficit to 19-15.
The Vikings (11-10 overall, 4-6 SAA) took advantage of senior Paige Baechle's (Gallatin, Tenn.) early foul trouble and built the lead to as many as 12 points in the opening period before going into the locker room with a 38-28 lead.
The second half was a different story as the Colonels scored 12 unanswered points to begin the half and go in front 40-38.
Tied 49-49 with 11:21 to play, Centre went on a 10-2 run to go ahead 59-51. Berry followed with a three-pointer to cut it to five points, but the Colonels scored the next seven points to push the lead to double digits.
Centre clcked on all cylinders. While the offense hit 19 of 32 (59.4%) from the field in the second half, the defense limited Berry to only 23.3% and allowed only eight free throws and one field goal in the final seven minutes of the game.
Junior Alanna Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) had a big game with a game-high 20 points, seven assists, five rebounds and one steal. After she was held scoreless with only one rebound in the first half, Baechle finished with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Senior Mary Gordon Stough (Louisville, Ky.) also had 14 points and added 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the year, while junior Maggie Hartlage added 11 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists in the win.
The Vikings were led by Chanlir Segarra's 14 points and nine rebounds. Marissa Ivey also finished in double figures with 11 points off the bench.
The Colonels, now 14-7 overall and 8-2 in the SAA, will take to the road Friday, Feb. 14. Centre will play Birmingham Southern in Birmingham, Ala. at 6 p.m. CST.
