The Centre College volleyball team had its four-match winning streak come to an end as the Colonels fell 3-0 to Berry College Sunday, Sept. 28 in Rome, Ga.

The loss drops Centre to 7-11 overall and 3-2 in SAA play, while the Vikings improve to 9-9 overall and 4-1 in league action.

Berry opened game one in a strong way as the Vikings scored nine of the first 11 points for a 9-2 lead. Down 12-4, the Colonels scored the next three points to cut the deficit to 12-7, but they would get no closer and fell 25-18.

Neither team led by more than one point in game two until Berry broke an 11-11 tie with three consecutive points to go in front 14-11. The Vikings went on to out-score Centre 11-4 the remainder of the way to take a two-game lead with a 25-15 win.

Game three was also close early, but ahead 5-4, Berry used a 13-4 run for an 18-8 lead en-route to another 25-15 win and a sweep of the match.

Junior Beth Cecil (Bardstown, Ky.) led the way for the Colonels with 10 kills and three digs. Senior Elizabeth Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 24 assists, and junior Erin McGrath (Louisville, Ky.) added 10 digs in the defeat.

Centre will take to the road again next weekend wtih road matches against Millsaps and Birmingham Southern. Start time against Millsaps is set for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 in Jackson, Miss.
