Season low round propels Centre men to win at SAA Preview
The Centre men's golf team entered the final day of play at the SAA Men's Preview in Murfreesboro, Tenn. in second place, trailing Birmingham Southern by two shots. The Colonels shot their lowest single-day team score of the year to come from behind and take first place in the tournament.
Centre followed up their combined team score of 290 on Sunday with a score of 287 on Monday, one under par overall and one shot better than the Colonels' previous low round of the year at Transylvania. The Colonels would go on to beat Birmingham Southern by ten shots for the tournament, with Sewanee finishing in third place.
The low scores of the day were turned in by a pair of Danville, Ky. natives as senior Grant Blevins and sophomore Dakota Jarman each posted scores of 71 to pace the Colonels on Monday. Junior Bryan Griffin (Greensboro, N.C.) was Centre's low man overall at the tournament, following a Sunday score of 71 with an even par round of 72 on Monday to finish at one under par for the tournament, good for second place. Freshman Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.) matched Sunday's score of 73 on Monday. Sophomores Andrew Horn (Franklin, Tenn.) and Carson Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.) rounded out the scoring for Centre with respective rounds of 74 and 76.
"This weekend was a great momentum builder going into our last tournament of the fall and the spring season," said Bryan Griffin. "I'm proud of the way everyone on the team fought hard both rounds to make sure we went low."
"I'm really proud of the way this group is coming together," said head coach/director of golf Bruce Brown. "They're starting to play golf in a more relaxed manner, and it's been fun to watch them grow as a team."
