The Centre men's golf team completed play at the Transylvania Fall Invitational, held at the University of Kentucky's Big Blue course. The Colonels finished second out of 15 teams with a two-day combined team score of 590.
Centre shot a combined team score of 288 on Sunday, the lowest round shot by any team in either day of competition, to finish five shots behind first place Wittenberg. The Colonels separated themselves from a slew of teams in the hunt at the end of Saturday's competition as they finished 14 shots ahead of third place Spalding and 18 shots ahead of fourth place Ferrum.
The Colonels had the tournament's individual medalist as sophomore Dakota Jarman (Danville, Ky.) posted a second consecutive score of 69 to finish at 138 for the tournament, good enough to finish five shots ahead of the second place finisher.
Sophomore Carson Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.) finished with a round of 71 on Sunday, while senior Grant Blevins (Danville, Ky.) and junior Bryan Griffin (Greensboro, N.C.) each posting a score of 74, with Blevins finishing in the top ten overall with a two-day score of 150. Senior Wilson Trent (Charlotte, N.C.) rounded out the scoring for Centre on Sunday with a score of 81.
"It was great to see the chemistry of this team," said head coach/director of golf Bruce Brown. "They worked really hard and earned a very respectable runner-up finish. Dakota Jarman played one of his best rounds under very tough course conditions and competition. To go 6-under with the rain and wind we had this weekend is incredible. Our goal as a program is to get back into the national rankings and I feel our performance in this tournament shows we're heading in the right direction."
The Colonels will be back in action on Sept. 14th-15th with the Rhodes Fall Invite at Tunica National G.C. in Tunica, Miss.
