Box Score The Centre field hockey team suffered its second loss of the season, falling 5-3 at No. 20 DePauw on Sunday in Greencastle, Ind.
A year ago, Centre knocked off the 11th ranked Tigers in the season's second weekend, but DePauw's Paige Berliner helped lead her team to a win in the rematch by scoring four goals on Sunday.
Berliner scored three goals in the first six minutes, and the Colonels would be trying to catch up the rest of the way. Centre got goals by Alex Ferrera (Louisville, Ky.) and Kelsey Gordon (Louisville, Ky.) to cut the margin to 3-2 by halftime, but it was as close as the Colonels would get.
Though Centre was just one goal down going into the second half, Berliner scored her fourth goal just two minutes into the second half, and Paige Henry made the score 5-2 with a goal just a few minutes later. Megan Flocken (Dexter, Mich.) scored a goal on an assist from Alicia Kalbfleisch (Louisville, Ky.) to pull Centre to within two at 5-3 with 24 minutes remaining, but it would be the last goal of the day.
Coming in off an upset of 2013 national semifinalist Christopher Newport, DePauw outshot Centre 29-9 on the game and held a 20-6 edge in penalty corners. Centre's Kirby Roberts made five saves in goal while Sara Guendert made one save for DePauw.
DePauw moves to 4-0 on the season while Centre drops to 2-2. The Colonels return to action when they take on Lindenwood at Bellarmine on Sunday.
