Box Score Ahead by one with 6:37 to play in the opening half, the Centre College men's basketball team closed the half with a 22-6 run and never looked back in defeating Berry 92-66 in SAA action Friday, Jan. 30 in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels led 17-10 seven minutes into the game, but the Vikings went on an 11-2 run to take a 21-19 lead at the 8:33 mark.
Leading 26-25, Centre scored 22 of the final 28 points in the half to take a 48-31 lead into the locker room.
The Vikings (5-12, 1-6 SAA) never threatened in the second half as the Colonels led by at least 20 for all but the first few minutes.
Fourteen different players scored for Centre, which shot a sizzling 61.0% (36-59) from the field and 12 of 19 (63.2%) from beyond the three-point arc.
Junior Blake Scinta (Louisville, Ky.) led the way with 16 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Sam Gruber (LaGrange, Ky.) came off the bench to score 14 points. Senior Josh Karsner (Frankfort, Ky.) tallied 12 points, and junior Tyler Wesley (Crestwood, Ky.) finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists, with six of his points coming on dunks.
Karsner also reached a milestone in the win as he broke the Centre career record for three-pointers made early in the contest. The previous record of 244 was held by none other than his current head coach, and 1994 graduate Greg Mason.
Zack Chaykowsky led Berry with 19 points, four rebounds and two assists. Owen Jacobs added 13 points off the bench.
The Colonels will be back in action Sunday, Feb. 1 when they host Oglethorpe. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium.
