The Centre women's basketball team improved to 2-0 in SAA play as the broke a halftime time against Birmingham Southern en route to an 80-70 victory.

Maggie Hartlage (Louisville, Ky.) led all scorers with 23 points on 8-15 shooting from the floor. Alexis Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), Paige Kellam (Hebron, Ky.) and Olivia Colliver (Mount Sterling, Ky.) each contributed double figure scoring in the Colonels' winning effort. Bonnie Rhule (Versailles, Ky.) led Centre with six rebounds, while Olivia Colliver paced the Colonels with five assists. Kayla Ford led the Panthers with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

The Colonels held a small lead for the majority of the first half, taking the ball inside for five straight layups to open the contest. Birmingham Southern came back late in the half, taking the lead for the first time at 30-29. The teams traded baskets and free throws the rest of the way as the two teams entered the locker room at halftime tied at 37.

The second half began as the first half ended, with both teams exchanging the lead in a back and forth contest. A driving basket by Caroline Andreassen (Palm Harbor, Fla.) gave the Colonels a lead they would never relinquish, kickstarting a 13-2 Centre run that gave the Colonels a double digit lead. Birmingham Southern would get no closer than eight points the rest of the way as Centre's defense tightened up at key points down the stretch.

For the game the Colonels shot 54.9% from the floor compared to the Panthers' 38.2%. Centre was also more effective at sharing the basketball, dishing out 14 assists in the game compared to only seven by Birmingham Southern.

The Colonels will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they take on the Millsaps Majors in a 1:00 PM tipoff at Alumni Gym.
