Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (CentreAthletics.com) – Playing in their fifth consecutive road game and the final regular season road game on the schedule, the Centre volleyball team could not avenge an Oct. 4 loss to the Birmingham Southern Panthers, falling in straight sets. The Colonels ended the five-game Southern Athletic Association road trip with a record of 2-3.
Birmingham Southern used a 5-0 run in the first to break a 10-10 tie and the Colonels could pull no closer than three points the rest of the way as the Panthers won 25-17.
The second set was plagued by errors for the Colonels as the Panthers took advantage of Centre mistakes, ending the set on a 13-3 run and winning 25-12.
The final set was the most closely contested set of the match as the Colonels fought back to tie the score at 15-15, but the Panthers would not budge, never surrendering the lead the rest of the way and winning by a score of 25-22.
Beth Cecil (Bardstown, Ky.) topped the Colonels with ten digs in the contest, with Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) and Abbigale Jacobi (Louisville, Ky.) chipping in with seven digs each. Elizabeth Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded 29 of Centre's 30 assists in the match. Erin McGrath (Louisville, Ky.) led the way for Centre with 15 digs, with Morgan Babey (LaGrange, Ky.) adding 13 digs.
The Centre volleyball team will be at home for the remainder of the regular season. The first game in the six-game home stand will be against the Rhodes Lynx on Oct. 24. The Colonels defeated Rhodes in four sets on Sept. 20 in Memphis.
