Box Score ROME, Ga. (CentreAthletics.com) – The Centre men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at the hands of host Berry on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Athletic Association contest and the regular season finale. The Colonels moved to 7-8-1 overall on the season and finish with a 3-4 record in SAA action. Six of Centre's eight losses in 2015 have been by one goal.
With the loss, Centre owns the No. 6 seed for next weekend's SAA Tournament and will return to Rome, Ga. To take on the same Vikings, who captured the No. 3 seed with the victory on Sunday. Berry improved to 8-6-2 and 4-3, respectively.
Senior forward Jacob Trumbull (Yellow Springs, Ohio) gave the Colonels an early 1-0 lead with a goal off his left foot from 20 yards out at the 5:44 mark of the first half.
Berry's Anu Campbell evened the score at 1-1 in the 26th minute of action with a goal on a rebound after a save by Centre freshman goalkeeper Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.).
In the second half, Daniel Shaw netted the game-winning goal for the Vikings in the 57th minute on the assist by Alex Rotoloni.
Berry was able to hold onto the slim one-goal lead for the remainder of the contest.
The Colonels held advantages of 12-11 in shots and 5-1 in corner kicks. Shots on goal in the match were an even 6-6 between the two squads.
Spade made three saves in goal for the Colonels.
Centre is back in action in the SAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 31 at Berry. Game times for the quarterfinals will be announced on Monday. The Colonels seek their first conference title since 1995.
Oglethorpe earned the top seed in the tournament and will take on the No. 8 seed Sewanee. Millsaps, the No. 2 seed in the tournament will face off with No. 7 Hendrix, while No. 4 Birmingham Southern battles No. 5 Rhodes.
