Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) – The Centre volleyball team began its season-ending five-match home stand on Sunday, taking on the Hendrix Warriors and the Berea Mountaineers in a tri-match. The Colonels defeated Hendrix in four sets, then went on to win in straight sets over Berea.

Centre began the match against Hendrix with defensive intensity, scoring three early points on blocks and building a 10-4 lead. Blocks by Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) and Jazmine Cline-Bailey (Cincinnati, Ohio) put the Colonels up 17-10 and the Warriors would get no closer as Beth Cecil (Bardstown, Ky.) put home the final point in the 25-17 victory.

The second set was closely contested as neither team led by more than two points until Centre took a 20-17 lead. But Hendrix would score the next five points and eight of the next nine to win by a score of 25-21.

The third set was the longest of the match as Centre once again grabbed the early lead, jumping out by a score of 14-5. Hendrix chipped away with six consecutive points, with another run of five straight points eventually forcing a set point. The Colonels fought off the set point, then Hailey Foote and Jazmine Cline-Bailey again combined on a critical block to give Centre its own set point, which the Colonels converted to take a 27-25 win.

The Colonels would once again grab a large lead in the fourth set and would hold on for the duration as Hendrix could get no closer than 15-14. A key block from Abbigale Jacobi (Louisville, Ky.) squashed the Warriors' final rally in Centre's 25-21 victory.

Beth Cecil paced the Colonels against Hendrix with 16 kills, followed by Hailey Foote with ten kills. Elizabeth Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a game high 37 assists in the contest. Erin McGrath (Louisville, Ky.) finished with a match high 18 digs, with Beth Cecil and Morgan Babey (LaGrange, Ky.) each recording 15 digs.

Against Berea, the Colonels would use a run of seven straight points to break open the first set. Centre would lead by at least five points the rest of the way, winning 25-18.

Centre opened up the second set scoring the first six points and never looked back, leading by as many as ten points at 23-13 and eventually winning by a score of 25-17.

In the third set, the Colonels gradually built their lead over the Mountaineers and steadily pulled away to a 25-16 win.

Beth Cecil once again led Centre in kills with ten against Berea, while Hailey Foote added nine kills. Elizabeth Janszen recorded 33 assists, nine more than Berea's team total. Erin McGrath was once again Centre's leader in digs with 15, while Elizabeth Janszen pitched in with 11 digs.

The Colonels will be back in action on Wednesday with a home game against Franklin scheduled for a 7:30 PM start.
