LOUISVILLE, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) – The Centre women's cross country team competed in one of its largest races of the season when it took part in the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday. Despite missing their top two scorers of the season due to illness, the Colonels still put on a strong performance, finishing 16th out of 41 teams, with several runners achieving either season best or personal best times.
The top time for Centre at Saturday's meet was turned in by junior Shelby Adams (Prospect, Ky.), who finished with her personal best 5k time at 20:19.05. Another personal best time belonged to freshman Annie Rodenfels (Waynesville, Ohio), who completed the 5k course at Louisville in 20:26.14.
Senior Amanda Vokoun (Louisville, Ky.) turned in a season-best time of 20:34.61 to finish as Centre third runner in the top 100 scorers out of a race of nearly 400 runners. Junior Celeste Grubb (Brentwood, Tenn.) also recorded a seasonal best time, crossing the finish line in 21:00.53.
Freshman Bailey Horn (Charleston, S.C.) turned in a season best time of 21:05.99. The final two scoring times for the Colonels came courtesy of sophomore Emma Anderson (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Liza Goss (Lebanon, N.H.), who finished with respective times of 21:06.94 and 21:13.77. Goss's time was also a personal best 5k for the freshman. One last personal best for the Colonels on Saturday belonged to senior Guadalupe Delgado (Worcester, Mass.), who finished the race in 22:44.
The Centre women's cross country team will be off next week, but will return to action on Oct. 16 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio for the Jenna Strong Fall Classic.
