DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) – The Centre women's cross country team hosted the Southern Athletic Association Championship meet on the challenging 6k home course. The Colonels finished third overall, breaking a streak of four consecutive conference titles, but Centre landed a pair of runners on the All-Conference list, including junior Serena Gale-Butto (Muskegon, Mich.), who finished first overall.
The Colonels finished with a combined team score of 73 points, 15 points behind second place Berry and nine points ahead of fourth place Sewanee. Rhodes won the meet with a score of 27 points.
Individually, Gale-Butto dominated the race, posting a time of 22:29.9 to take the individual championship and crossing the finish line more than 30 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Joining Gale-Butto on the All-SAA squad was sophomore Marisa Moore (Glasgow, Ky.), who finished 14th overall, 13th among qualifying scorers, with a time of 24:24.9.
Freshman Annie Rodenfels (Waynesville, Ohio) finished 19th overall with a time of 24:56.9. Freshman Carbery Campbell (DeLand, Fla.)and senior Amanda Vokoun (Louisville, Ky.) rounded out the scoring for the Colonels with respective times of 25:03.8 and 25:16.6, both good enough to finish inside the top 25 overall, with junior Shelby Adams (Prospect, Ky.) finishing in 25th overall with a time of 25:22.4.
The next meet for the Centre women's cross country team will be on Nov. 14 as Serena Gale-Butto and Marisa Moore will race in the South/Southeast Regional Championships in Winchester, Va.
