DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) - The longest win streak of the season for the Centre volleyball team came to an end on Sunday afternoon as the Colonels fell to the Birmingham Southern Panthers in four sets.

BSC jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the opening set but the Colonels rallied for seven straight points. The Panthers rebuilt the lead midway through the set and fought off a late Centre rally to win 25-22.

In the second set the lead changed hands six times before Centre rallied to tie the score at 23-23. BSC would score the final two points of the set to win 25-23 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set played out similarly to the second set as the two teams again went back and forth. The Panthers forced a match point at 24-23, but Centre would respond with the final three points of the match, winning by a score of 26-24 to extend the contest.

In the final set it was the Panthers who would get off to the hot start, going ahead 9-1 before the Colonels chipped away. Centre eventually took the lead at 20-18, but this time it was the Panthers who rallied late and won by a score of 25-22.

Beth Cecil (Bardstown, Ky.) led Centre with 22 kills in the match, while Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) added a career high 17 kills. Elizabeth Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a game high 51 assists. Erin McGrath (Louisville, Ky.) was Centre's leader in digs with 24. Morgan Babey (LaGrange, Ky.) added a career high 20 digs while Elizabeth Janszen recorded 15.

The Colonels will be traveling to the state of Georgia next weekend for games at Oglethorpe on Saturday and Berry on Sunday.
