Centre Drops 2-1 Overtime Decision to Visiting Bellarmine

Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) – The Centre field hockey team fell in overtime by a score of 2-1 to Division II opponent and Bluegrass State foe Bellarmine on Wednesday night at the South Campus Field. The loss snaps the Colonels' five-game winning streak, as Centre moves to 5-4 on the year. The Knights improved to 6-3 with the win.

Centre wore pink jerseys to raise breast cancer awareness, as Wednesday marked the Colonels' annual Play for the Cure game.

Bellarmine's Kelsey O'Bryan got the Knights on the board with a goal just under 11 minutes into the contest.

Neither team could find the back of the cage in the next 57 minutes of play, until senior forward Julie Gates (Louisville, Ky.) scored on the assist by freshman midfielder Peyton Baer (Asheville, N.C.) at the 68:09 mark of the game.

In overtime, O'Bryan notched her second score of the game, this time on an assist by Aime Ilgenfritz to seal the win for the Knights.

Junior Kirby Roberts (Louisville, Ky.) played in goal for Centre and made six saves on the night.

Bellarmine outshot Centre 20-10 in the contest, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.

The Knights tallied 12 penalty corners, while the Colonels finished with six.

Centre is back in action on Sunday hosting Newberry in a non-conference matchup against Newberry at 1 p.m. at the South Campus Field.
