LEXINGTON, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) - The American Volleyball Coaches' Association released its postseason regional awards earlier today and Centre senior outside hitter Beth Cecil (Bardstown, Ky.) was named an Honorable Mention AVCA All-South Region selection.
It is the second year in a row that Cecil has been named to the All-South Region squad. During her senior campaign, Cecil had an excellent all-around season for the Colonels. Her 412 total kills for the year ranked second in the Southern Athletic Association, as did her 3.81 kills per set average.
Cecil also ranked fifth in the conference with a hitting percentage of .258. In addition, she finished her senior year with 305 digs, second on the team and ninth in the SAA. Cecil is one of only two players to finish in the top ten in the SAA in both kills and digs.
Cecil tallied at least 10 kills in 28 of 30 matches this season, including six matches with at least 20 kills.
Cecil posted a season-high 23 kills in the Colonels' 3-1 victory over Sewanee on Sept. 15. She finished with a season-best hitting percentage of .531 against the same Tigers in a 3-0 triumph on Oct. 15, recording 18 kills, eight digs, a service ace and a block in the win.
Cecil had 10 double-doubles during the season, highlighted by a season-high 18 digs with 21 kills in Centre's matchup with Capital on Sept. 13.
She ranks fourth in school history with 1275 career kills and has recorded a career hitting percentage of .249.
