KERNSTOWN, Va. (CentreAthletics.com) – The Centre women's cross country team competed in their final team meet of the season at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships at Shenandoah University. The Colonels finished in a tie for ninth out of 27 teams, with junior Serena Gale-Butto (Muskegon, Mich.) earning a berth into the NCAA Finals.
The Colonels finished with a combined team score of 276 points to tie with Mary Washington. Emory won the South/Southeast Regional meet, followed by Rhodes, Washington & Lee, Trinity and Christopher Newport. Centre also earned a victory over Berry after the Vikings had finished ahead of the Colonels at the SAA Championships two Saturdays ago in Danville.
Individually, Gale-Butto had a fantastic race on the 6k course at Shenandoah, posting a time of 22:26.5 to finish third overall. Gale-Butto finished second among non-NCAA team qualifiers, earning All-Regional honors and an automatic entry into next week's NCAA Championship meet.
In other individual finishes, freshman Annie Rodenfels (Waynesville, Ohio) landed in the top 50 scorers with a time of 24:22.2. Senior Amanda Vokoun (Louisville, Ky.) posted a time of 24:39.7.
All-SAA Sophomore Marisa Moore (Glasgow, Ky.) crossed the finish line in 24:49.9, and freshman Carbery Campbell (DeLand, Fla.) rounded out the scoring for Centre with a time of 25:27.3. All five scoring runners for the Colonels finished in the top 100 overall.
The University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh will host the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Nov. 21. Live results for following the action will be posted when available.
