Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) – Senior forward Blake Scinta (Louisville, Ky.) notched his third consecutive double-double to help the Centre men's basketball team to its third straight win with an 80-66 triumph over visiting Berea on Wednesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Colonels improved to 3-1 on the year, while the Mountaineers dropped to 2-3 with the loss.

Centre got out to another fast start, scoring the first eight points of the game, including four from senior forward Tyler Wesley (Crestwood, Ky.).

Berea cut the Colonels' advantage to three points at 20-17 on a Dominique Garmon layup with 9:25 to play in the first half.

Centre answered with a 16-6 run keyed by two 3-pointers by freshman guard Carson Ebert (Willard, Ohio) to give the Colonels a 12-point lead at 36-24 with 3:49 remaining in the opening period.

Centre held the 12-point advantage with just over two minutes to play in the half, when the Mountaineers scored six straight points to shrink the Colonels advantage to 42-36 with 37 seconds showing on the first half clock.

A Wesley layup with four seconds left in the half gave Centre a 44-36 advantage at the break.

With the Colonels ahead by eight points at 51-43 in the second half, Centre used a 13-4 surge capped by a 3-pointer by freshman guard Tucker Sine (Bowling Green, Ky.) to take its largest lead of the night at 15 points at 62-47 with just under nine minutes to play in the game.

Berea responded with a 13-5 spurt to minimize the Colonels' lead to seven points at 67-60 with 3:59 remaining in the contest.

However, this is as close as the Mountaineers would come, as Centre outscored Berea 13-6 for the remainder of the game to earn the home non-conference win.

Scinta tallied game-highs of 18 points and 11 rebounds in the win to pace three Centre players in double-figures. Junior guard Matt Gump (Bellefontaine, Ohio) finished with 15 markers and five assists, and Wesley stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, four blocks and a steal in the victory.

Ebert had nine points, three steals and two assists, while senior guard Bryan Repishti (Louisville, Ky.) added seven points, four rebounds and three assists.

Sine came off the bench to score six points to go along with three assists.

The Colonels held Berea leading scorer Richard Parker to 16 points on 4-of-12 shooting. Parker came into the game averaging 30.8 points per game and made at least five 3-pointers in each of the Mountaineers' first four games. He made just two shots from behind the arc on Wednesday night.

Anthony Myrks recorded a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds for Berea.

The Colonels shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the field, 34.5 percent (10-of-29) from behind the arc and 88.9 percent (16-of-18) from the charity stripe, while the Mountaineers were 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the floor, 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from long range and 75.0 percent (15-of-20) from the line.

Centre outrebounded Berea 34-32 in the contest, including a 22-16 advantage in the second half.

The Colonels dished out a season-high 23 assists as a team.

Centre returns to action on Saturday hosting another Bluegrass State foe in Thomas More at 3 p.m. at Alumni Gymnasium.
