The Centre women's basketball team fell victim to a second half run by Birmingham-Southern, eventually falling 62-56 in a Southern Athletic Association road game Friday in Birmingham, Ala.

The Colonels led as late as the 15 minute mark of the second half, but a run by the Panthers quickly turned the momentum. Birmingham-Southern outscored the Colonels 16-4 over the next 10 minutes while Centre shot just 1-of-11 from the field during that stretch. As a result, a 38-34 Centre lead turned into a 10-point deficit which the Colonels could not recover from.

The Colonels cut into the margin down the stretch, coming within three points on two occasions over the final 1:05, but they were unable to come all the way back.

Paige Kellam (Hebron, Ky.) led all scorers with a career-high 17 points, while Alexis Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) added 16 points with a game-high 11 rebounds. Maggie Hartlage added 11 points for the Colonels while Jasmynn Batts led Birmingham-Southern with 14 points.

The Panthers' second half run negated a back-and-forth start to the game, which featured two ties and 11 lead changes. The lead changed several times in the first half, with Centre taking its biggest lead in the opening moments at 7-2. Birmingham-Southern took a 30-29 lead to halftime, with Centre taking it back for the first few minutes of the second half before the Panthers' run.

With the result, the Colonels split with Birmingham-Southern on the season, after defeating the Panthers earlier in the season in Danville. BSC improves to 10-12 overall and 3-8 in SAA play while Centre drops to 8-13 on the year and 4-7 in the conference.
