The Centre women's tennis team fell 7-2 to the Sewanee Tigers in its first match of the season against a Southern Athletic Association team, on Sunday in Sewanee, Tenn.
Freshman Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) contributed to both of Centre's victories on the day. She was a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 winner over Sewanee's Maggie Crumbliss in the No. 1 singles match, then teamed up with Kate Tomey (Indianapolis, Ind.) in the No. 1 doubles match to defeat Sewanee's Clementina Davila and Christian Merchant 8-6.
The Colonels dropped the other two doubles matches and fell in straight sets in the the other five singles matches to the Tigers, who came into the match as the No. 21 team in the country.
Centre drops to 1-2 on the season with the loss, while Sewanee moves to 3-0. The Colonels will return to the court when they face Transylvania on Saturday.
