The Centre women's tennis team put forth a dominant performance in its home opener, sweeping St. Catharine College 9-0 on Wednesday in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels breezed through doubles play, with the No. 1 team of Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kate Tomey (Indianapolis, Ind.) and the No. 3 team of Mary Chapin Snow (Elizabethtown, Ky.) and Kimberly Randall (Johns Creek, Ga.) each winning their matches 8-0. The team of Courtney Delong (Louisville, Ky.) and Jenna Hazelwood (Lebanon, Tenn.) also won by a wide margin, taking the No. 2 match 8-1.
Singles competition brought similar results with five of the six Centre players winning their matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Williams, Tomey and Delong followed up their doubles wins with 6-0, 6-0 wins in the No. 1, 2, and 3 singles matches, respectively. Molly McElvogue (Phoenix, Ariz.) was a 6-1, 6-3 winner in the No. 4 match, while Abby Tudor (Richmond, Ky.) and Casey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) were 6-0, 6-0 winners in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches.
With its second straight sweep, Centre evens its record at 3-3 on the season. The Colonels are back on the courts with a trip to rival Transylvania on Saturday.
