The Centre women's tennis team rolled to its third straight win with a 9-0 sweep of rival Transylvania on Saturday in Lexington, Ky.
The win was also the third straight sweep for the Colonels, who at 4-3, pull themselves back above .500 after a 1-4 start. Transylvania falls to 4-8 on the season.
Centre got out to a positive start on the day by sweeping the three doubles matches. Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kate Tomey (Indianapolis, Ind.) were 8-1 winners in the No. 1 match, while Molly McElvogue (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Abby Tudor (Richmond, Ky.) teamed up for an 8-6 win in the No. 2 match. Courtney DeLong (Louisville, Ky.) and Casey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) swept the No. 3 match 8-0.
Singles play brought more of the same, with Centre winning all six matches in straight sets, including 6-0, 6-0 wins by DeLong and Mary Chapin Snow (Elizabethtown, Ky.) in the No. 3 and No. 5 matches, respectively. Williams won 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 match for her fifth straight singles win, while Tomey picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 2 match. McElvogue won 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 match, and Kimberly Randall (Johns Creek, Ga.) was a 6-2, 6-0 winner in No. 6.
The Colonels will now take their three-match winning streak into a road trip against Southern Athletic Association opponents Rhodes and Hendrix on Saturday and Sunday.
