The Centre women's tennis team saw its five match winning streak snapped by Southern Athletic Association opponent Berry in a 7-2 loss on Saturday in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels fell behind after dropping all three doubles matches, then took two of the six singles matches to arrive at the final result.
Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) continued her dominant play in the No. 1 singles position, winning 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 over Berry's Mary Cerny to claim her ninth straight singles victory. Centre's other win came from Jenna Hazelwood (Lebanon, Tenn.) in the No. 6 match, where she topped Berry's Emmie Cornell 7-5, 6-1.
Williams was part of Centre's most competitive doubles match as well, as she and Kate Tomey (Indianapolis, Ind.) were edged 9-8 in the No. 1 match by the Vikings' Laren Byrket and Heidi Seabaugh. The loss was the first in more than a month for Williams and Tomey, who had won five straight No. 1 doubles matches.
With the loss, Centre drops to 6-4 on the season, while Berry improves to 10-1. The Colonels play their final home match of the season when they host Oglethorpe on Sunday.
