The Centre women's tennis team bounced back from its first loss in more than a month with a 5-1 defeat of Southern Athletic Association opponent Oglethorpe on Sunday in Danville, Ky.
Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up her 10th straight victory in No. 1 singles play by defeating Oglethorpe's Katherine Walker 6-1, 6-0. She also teamed up with Kate Tomey (Indianapolis, Ind.) to top Oglethorpe's No. 1 team of MaryAnne Hafen and Marcail McGranahan 8-1 in doubles play.
The Colonels came away from doubles play ahead 2-1, with Casey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) and Jenna Hazelwood (Lebanon, Tenn.) also picking up a 9-7 win in the No. 3 match.
Centre claimed the victory by picking up all three wins in matches that were played to completion. Tomey was also a 6-2, 6-1 winner in singles play, while Courtney DeLong picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 3 match.
With the victory, Centre improves to 7-4 on the season, while Oglethorpe drops to 6-14. The Colonels take to the road when they travel to Berea on Tuesday.
