The Centre women's tennis team was swept 6-0 in a match with Southern Athletic Association opponent Birmingham-Southern on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.
Centre fell behind early by dropping the three doubles matches, with the team of Courtney DeLong (Louisville, Ky.) and Casey Blair (Louisville, Ky.) playing the most competitive match before falling 8-4 to Birmingham-Southern's Katie Scherer and Lindsey Farrell in No. 2.
In singles play, the Colonels dropped the three matches that were played to completion, with DeLong again playing the most competitive match, but falling 8-5 in No. 2. Centre was at a disadvantage in Saturday's match, playing without freshman Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio), who has won 10 straight No. 1 singles matches and is 8-3 in doubles play this year.
Centre drops to 7-5 on the year with the loss, while Birmingham-Southern improves to 9-3. The Colonels wrap up their regular season SAA schedule with a trip to Millsaps on Sunday.
