The Centre women's tennis team dropped its first match of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament, falling 5-0 to Birmingham-Southern on Friday at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
The Colonels, who had just faced Birmingham-Southern on Saturday, fell again to the Panthers. Southern took all three doubles matches, then won the first two singles matches that were played to completion to clinch the victory.
Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio), who had won 10 straight matches in No. 1 singles, won her first set on Friday, but her match was unfinished when BSC clinched the overall team match.
Birmingham-Southern moves to 10-2 on the season with the victory, while Centre falls even at 7-7 on the year. The Panthers will face top-seeded Sewanee at noon CDT on Saturday in a semifinal match, while Centre will meet Oglethorpe at the same time.
