The Centre men's golf team concluded play at the SAA championships at Old Fort G.C. in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Just like they did on Saturday, the Colonels played one of their best team rounds of the season to finish fourth overall for the tournament.
Centre posted a combined team score of 292 after posting a team score of 291 on Saturday. The Colonels were able to jump Millsaps and Birmingham Southern on the leaderboard and finished three shots behind third place Rhodes to show how tightly contested the tournament was for three days.
The low man of the day for the Colonels on Sunday was junior Bryan Griffin (Greensboro, N.C.), who posted a score of 71. Freshman Andrew McKinney (Danville, Ky.) was Centre's low man for the tournament after shooting another even par 72 on Sunday. McKinney was one over par for the entire tournament to finish tied for seventh.
Freshman Paxton Duff (Louisville, Ky.) posted a score of 73 on Sunday, while sophomore Carson Riley (Hendersonville, Tenn.) posted a score of 76. Riley and Duff each finished in the top 20 overall for the tournament. Sophomores Dakota Jarman (Danville, Ky.) and Andrew Horn (Franklin, Tenn.) each shot scores of 77 to round out the scoring for Centre.
Andrew McKinney was named to the All-SAA team for finishing in the top ten overall at the conference championship.
"This weekend was a very solid one for our team," said McKinney. "After a first round that was not as low as we would've liked, we made up some ground in the next two days. Obviously, our goal before every tournament is to go out there and win. But, there are still plenty of positives to be taken from this week. The last two days should give everyone motivation to work over the summer and to be ready to go again once we start back in the fall."
