DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) - The Centre women's cross country team competed in its first meet of the season against Division III competition, taking first place at the Centre Invitational on the team's home course.
The Colonels came away with a close victory, finishing the meet with 37 points and edging second place Asbury by eight points. Berea finished in third place with 72 points.
Individually, the overall winner of the Centre Invitational was junior Serena Gale-Butto (Muskegon, Mich.), who completed Centre's challenging 5k course in 19:22.79, more than 23 seconds faster than the next fastest time.
The Colonels landed three more runners in the top ten individual scores, as freshman Carbery Campbell (DeLand, Fla.) took sixth place with a time of 21:06.77, while senior Amanda Vokoun (Louisville, Ky.) finished right behind her in seventh place with a time of 21:08.39. Freshman Annie Rodenfels (Waynesville, Ohio), finished ninth overall among scorers, posting a time of 21:09.66. Junior Shelby Adams (Prospect, Ky.) rounded out the scoring times for Centre, finishing the course in 21:25.44, good for 14th place overall.
The next meet for the Centre women's cross country team will be the Berea Invitational in Berea, Ky. on Sept. 19.
