BEREA, Ky. (CentreAthletics.com) – The Centre women's cross country team wrapped up the third meet of the season and final meet of September at the Berea Invitational. The Colonels finished in second place overall with a team score of 55 points.
The Colonels' 55 points put them 44 points ahead of third place Berea. Lindsey Wilson finished fourth with 108 points, followed by a tie between Bryan and Cumberland (Tenn.) with 150 points. Tennessee Wesleyan won the event with 23 points.
Individually, the top scoring time of the day for Centre belonged to junior Serena Gale-Butto (Muskegon, Mich.), who finished third overall with a time of 19:19.50 on Berea's 5k course. Gale-Butto posted the fastest time of any Division III runner in the field.
The Colonels also had three runners finish consecutively, just outside of the overall top ten. Sophomore Marisa Moore (Glasgow, Ky.) was Centre's next fastest time at 21:00.34, good for 11th place overall. Moore was followed by freshman Annie Rodenfels (Waynesville, Ohio) in 12th place at 21:03.09, and senior Amanda Vokoun (Louisville, Ky.) less than a second behind for 13th place at 21:03.82. Freshman Bailey Horn (Charleston, S.C.) rounded out the scoring for the Colonels with a time of 21:16.92.
The next meet for the Colonels will be the Louisville Classic at the University of Louisville on Oct. 3. The field at Louisville will be massive as the Colonels will be competing against runners from all across the country spanning all divisions.
