MASON, Ohio (CentreAthletics.com) - The Centre women's cross country team kicked off its 2015 season at the University of Cincinnati for the Queen City Invitational. Racing as the only Division III squad in the 14-team field, the Colonels finished in ninth place.
The Colonels finished the Queen City Invitational with 248 points to finish in ninth place. Centre finished three points back of Asbury and 61 points behind D-I opponent Wright State. Xavier won the meet with 39 points.
On the individual side, the top time for the Centre women came courtesy of junior Serena Gale-Butto (Muskegon, Mich.), who completed the 6k course in 23:29 to finish in 22nd place overall.
In a rare occurrence, the remaining four scoring times for Centre all came in succession on the scoreboard as Centre runners finished in 55th-58th place. The next highest time for the Colonels belonged to freshman Annie Rodenfels (Waynesville, Ohio) at 25:24, followed by senior Amanda Vokoun (Louisville, Ky.) at 25:36.4. Junior Shelby Adams (Prospect, Ky.) and freshman Carbery Campbell (DeLand, Fla.) rounded out the scoring for Centre with respective times of 25:43.3 and 25:44.3.
The Centre women's cross country team will be back in action on Sept. 12 when they compete in the Centre Invitational on the same course that will host the Southern Athletic Association Championships later this season.
