Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. - (CentreAthletics.com) After finishing off the weekend with a pair of wins at Marietta, the Centre volleyball team fell to 2-2 on the year as they lost a match at Transylvania in straight sets.
Transylvania used an 11-3 run to break a 12-12 tie in the first set, eventually winning by a score of 25-16. The Pioneers also won the second set by a 25-16 margin, this time jumping out to a 14-5 lead in the early stages and holding on for the win. In the third set, the Colonels fell behind early once more, but battled back to take a 15-14 lead. The Pioneers scored the next three points to take a 17-15 lead and never trailed by more than two points the rest of the way as the Colonels lost by a score of 25-19.
Beth Cecil (Bardstown, Ky.) led the way for the Colonels with eight kills, followed by Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) with seven and Abbigale Jacobi (Louisville, Ky.) with five. Elizabeth Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded 28 of Centre's 29 assists, while Beth Cecil and Erin McGrath (Louisville, Ky.) each paced the Colonels with eight digs apiece.
This weekend the Colonels will be playing in a tournament at Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, Ind. Centre will face Anderson (Ind.) and Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday, followed by matches against Rose-Hulman and Capital on Sunday.
