Colonels Blank Berea 6-0 in Intrastate Matchup

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's soccer team posted its sixth shutout victory of the season in a 6-0 triumph over intrastate foe Berea on a rainy Thursday night at the South Campus Field. The Colonels win their 10th game of the season with the victory, improving to 10-5 on the year. The Mountaineers dropped to 1-10-3 with the defeat.

Centre's 10 wins mark the most for the program since the 2012 season when Centre finished with a 15-4-3 overall ledger and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Senior midfielder Phil Shehan (Orlando, Fla.) tallied a pair of goals to lead Centre. Both of Shehan's goals came late in the second half. He paces the Colonels with eight goals on the season and ranks second in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) in goals scored.

Junior defender Ian Williams (Versailles, Ky.) got Centre on the board just three minutes into the contest off the assist by junior midfielder Brandon Schweder (Lexington, Ky.). It marked the first career goal for Williams, who also made his first start of the season against Berea.

Junior midfielder Harrison Dunn's (Lexington, Ky.) first goal of the season in the 38th minute off the assist by senior midfielder Luke Hart (Hickory, N.C.) pushed the Colonels' lead to 2-0, before junior defender Caleb Vogel (Shelbyville, Ky.) netted his first goal of the 2016 campaign and second of his career to extend the Centre advantage to 3-0 heading into halftime. Senior midfielder Eric Muth (Louisville, Ky.) set Vogel for the Centre score.

Senior forward Christian Gateskill's (Danville, Ky.) penalty kick goal just over two minutes into the second stanza put the Colonels ahead 4-0, followed by Shehan's two goals in the 56th and 90th minute respectively. Sophomore midfielder Ben Stinebruner (Louisville, Ky.) and senior midfielder Fabien Celestin (Vancouver, Wash.) each notched assists on Shehan's goals.

Centre outshot the Mountaineers 26-4 in the contest, including a 15-0 edge in the first half. The Colonels also held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) earned the win between the pipes for Centre, making on stop for the Colonels.

Centre closed the regular season with an SAA road matchup on Saturday at Sewanee. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m. CT in Tennessee.
