Colonels Push Winning Streak to 10 with 2-0 Win over Concordia

Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre field hockey team won its 10th consecutive game with a 2-0 shutout win over visiting Concordia (Wis.) on Friday night at the South Campus Field. The Colonels' 10-match winning streak marks the team's longest since the 2007 campaign, when Centre captured 10 straight victories to begin the season.

Centre improved to 12-3 overall with the triumph, while the Falcons dropped to 5-10 on the season.

Both of the Colonels' goals came early in the second half, as junior forward Hayley Barker (Louisville, Ky.) scored her Southern Athletic Association-leading 15th goal of the year just under three minutes into the match. It also marked Barker's fourth game-winning goal, a mark that also leads the conference.

Just over 10 minutes later, junior forward Brooklyn Bell (Louisville, Ky.) extended the Centre lead to 2-0 with a goal off a deflected shot by senior defender Nicole DeHerde (Hope, N.J.). Bell is now second in the SAA with 12 goals on the year.

The Colonels outshot Concordia 20-6 in the win, including a 15-4 edge in shots on goal.

Centre also held an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Senior goalkeeper Kirby Roberts (Louisville, Ky.) earned the win between the pipes for the Colonels, making a pair of saves in 30 minutes of action. Freshman goalie Kristen Mulcahy (Cedarburg, Wis.) played 39-plus minutes of shutout hockey, chipping in a pair of saves as well.

Falcons goaltender Kennedy Boyer finished with a stellar 13 saves despite the losing effort.

Centre now has seven shutout wins on the season, all coming during the Colonels' current winning streak in which they are outscoring opponents by a clip of 47-3.

Centre closes out the regular season with an SAA road contest at local rival Transylvania on Monday, Oct. 31 at 7 p.m.
