Box Score Full All-SAA Teams/Release
ATLANTA, Ga. (CentreColonels.com) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released its 2015-16 women's basketball all-conference teams on Friday afternoon, and Centre senior guard Alexis Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) was named a First Team All-SAA selection.
Guy collects first team honors for the first time in her career after being named an Honorable Mention All-SAA selection last season. She was also a 2013-14 SAA All-Tournament Team honoree and was named to the SAA Academic Honor Roll in both 2013-14 and 2014-15.
After exclusive voting conducted by the league's head coaches, Sara Dyslin of Hendrix collected the Player of the Year honor, while Millsaps' Braxton Thomas earned Defensive Player of the Year status and Yorisha Bryant of Birmingham Southern captured Newcomer of the Year. Mike Ricks of Birmingham Southern was named Coach of the Year by his peers. A total of 25 student-athletes earned recognition among the league's All-Conference First, Second and Honorable Mention teams.
Guy paces the Colonels and ranks fifth in the SAA in scoring at 14.2 points per game. She also leads Centre in rebounding at 5.4 rebounds per contest and in steals with 34, while sitting second on the team with 47 assists. The senior guard ranks fourth in the SAA with 121 field goals made (121-of-331) and 10th in free throw percentage shooting 69.5 percent (89-128) from the charity stripe.
Guy scored in double-figures in 19 of 25 games played this season, scoring at least 20 points in seven of those contests. She dropped in a career-high 30 markers in the Colonels' 76-75 win over Hendrix on Jan. 10. She grabbed a season-high nine rebounds on three occasions this season, the last coming in the regular season finale in a 57-52 win over Oglethorpe. Guy is averaging 19.3 points per game over the last three contests heading into the SAA Tournament.
She was named the SAA Player of the Week on Jan. 11 after averaging 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in two SAA contests that week.
Guy and the Colonels open the 2015-16 SAA Tournament on Friday night against Hendrix at 6 p.m. CT in Birmingham, Ala.
