Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's lacrosse team earned its third consecutive victory with a 12-8 victory over visiting Berry in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) game on Sunday afternoon at the South Campus Field.
The Colonels boosted their record to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 in SAA action, while the Vikings dropped to 3-2 and 1-1, respectively.
Sophomore midfielder Hannah Bellamah (Loveland, Ohio) tallied team-highs of three goals and three assists for Centre to go along with two draw controls.
Senior midfielder Jacqueline Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman midfielder Hannah Hardy (Louisville, Ky.) each finished with two goals and two assists apiece.
Sophomore attack Colleen Jackson (Gaithersburg, Md.) posted two goals, an assist and three ground balls, while senior midfielder Andrea Wambaugh (Louisville, Ky.) scored two goals and recorded three ground balls on the day.
Sophomore midfielder Haden Gibbons (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished with a goal, two ground balls and three draw controls in the victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Natalie Marek (Louisville, Ky.) earned the win in net for the Colonels, making eight saves in the triumph.
Lizzy Jones paced the Vikings with three goals while Keiley Ayers contributed a game-high four ground balls for Berry.
The Colonels jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half with goals by Bellamah, Anderson, Jackson and Hardy, before the Vikings responded with three unanswered goals to shrink the Centre advantage to 4-3 with just over a minute to play in the half.
Bellamah extended the Colonels' lead to 5-3 heading into halftime with a goal on the assist by Jackson with 19 seconds remaining in the opening period.
Bellamah returned the favor with an assist on a Jackson goal to open the second half, giving Centre a 6-3 advantage.
Berry answered with a pair of scores to come within a goal at 6-5, before the Colonels countered with three goals of their own coming from Bellamah, Gibbons and Wambaugh to take a 9-5 lead with 16:23 to play in the contest.
The Vikings would not go away, scoring two more goals in a row to shrink the Centre advantage to 9-7, when Hardy and Wambaugh each scored to build the Colonels' lead to 11-7.
The two teams traded goals to close the game, with Anderson finding the back of the net for Centre as time expired
The Colonels held advantages of 12-9 in draw controls and 22-21 in ground balls.
Centre now has nine days before their contest against Siena Heights on Tuesday, March 8 at the South Campus Field at 6:30 p.m.
