DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre baseball team dropped a 16-4 decision to Berry on Sunday afternoon in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series finale between the teams. The Colonels took two of three from the Vikings, moving to 12-9 overall after the series with a 3-6 mark in SAA action, while Berry sits at 17-8 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.

Centre jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the bottom of the first inning when junior first baseman Greyson Evans (Kernersville, N.C.) hit an RBI single to center field, freshman right fielder Justin DiFilippo (Jacksonville, Fla.) walked with the bases loaded and junior second baseman Andrew Olson (Louisville, Ky.) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to push the Colonels' advantage to three runs.

The Vikings would answer with a big second inning, plating five runs before adding another score in the third to take a 6-3 lead after the visiting half of the third frame.

Centre chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the stanza when Evans singled to bring home junior designated hitter Alex Richardson (Mount Washington, Ky.), cutting the Berry advantage to 6-4.

The Vikings then responded with 10 unanswered runs to close the game, seven of those coming in the top of the eighth inning.

Evans finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI on the day, while freshman center fielder Wesley Jorette (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Richardson went 1-for-3 with two runs scored for the Colonels.

Grant Perkins led Berry going 4-for-5 on the day with five RBI, a double and a run scored.

Centre hits the highway for a two-game road trip at Emory & Henry on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and Roanoke on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Colonels then return home to host Oglethorpe for another SAA three-game series beginning on Friday.
