Box Score

ATLANTA, Ga. (CentreColonels.com) – The Southern Athletic Association (SAA) released its 2016 All-SAA baseball teams on Friday afternoon, with six Colonels being named to the various squads and freshman outfielder Andrew Schacht (Lexington, Ky.) garnering Newcomer of the Year accolades.

Schacht was also a first team selection as a utility player alongside senior pitcher Rob Caudill (Danville, Ky.).

Junior Alex Richardson (Mount Washington, Ky.) collected second team honors, while senior catcher Zach Montgomery (Louisville, Ky.), junior first baseman Greyson Evans Kernersville, N.C.) and freshman pitcher Aaryn Chandler (St. John, Ind.) were each named Honorable Mention.

Oglethorpe catcher Adrian Celata earned Player of the Year recognition and Ryan Gaines of Birmingham Southern picked up Pitcher of the Year accolades, while the Panthers' Jan Weisberg was named Coach of the Year.

Schacht has made an immediate impact in his debut season for the Colonels, pacing the team and ranking seventh in the SAA with a .369 batting average on the season. His .462 on-base percentage sits sixth in the conference, while his 24 walks rank second in the league, his 14 stolen bases are good for a tie for third and his 48 base hits rank eighth in the SAA.

On the mound, Schacht is knotted for the SAA lead with four saves on the season. He has appeared in 11 games out of the Colonel bullpen, posting a 1-1 record in 18.0 innings of work. He has recorded a 4.00 ERA and is averaging 9.0 strikeouts per nine innings.

The Lexington, Ky. native has posted 17 multi-hit games on the year, including six three-hit performances. He went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored in Centre's 7-4 non-conference victory over intrastate foe Thomas More on March 30.

Caudill earns All-SAA honors for the third time in his career after being named to the Second Team as a sophomore in 2014 and junior in 2015. He has tallied a team-high 54.2 innings, posting a 3-3 record with a 2.96 ERA on the season.

Caudill's 11.85 strikeouts per nine innings paces the conference and ranks 13th in NCAA Division III, as he has recorded at least five strikeouts in eight of his nine starts on the season, including three double-figure punch out performances. His 72 strikeouts are good for second in the league.

The Danville product tallied 13 strikeouts in the Colonels' 6-1 win over Wilmington in the 2016 season opener, working seven innings and allowing one unearned run on three hits with no walks. He also recorded 13 strikeouts in Centre's 4-3 triumph over Millsaps on March 11, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings of work.

Caudill is coming off a win over Sewanee in his last appearance, scattering two runs off eight hits across six innings, fanning eight batters and walking none.

Richardson picks up his first All-SAA honor, ranking second on the team with a .369 batting average with six doubles, a home run, a team-high 24 RBI and 15 runs scored.

He posted 12 multi-hit games, highlighted by a career-high 4-for-5 day in a 7-4 win at Thomas More on March 30 with two doubles, two RBI and a run. Richardson was also 2-for-5 with a double, home run, three RBI and a run scored in the Colonels' 6-2 victory over Hendrix on April 3.

This marks the first All-SAA selection for Montgomery, who is batting .294 with four doubles, a home run, 16 RBI, 21 runs and 11 stolen bases. He also threw out 17 runners stealing from behind the dish for Centre.

The Louisville native went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored against Millsaps on March 12. He also opened the season with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate with three RBI in the Colonels' 6-1 triumph over Wilmington (Ohio).

Evans collects his second All-SAA honor after being named to the second team last season. This year, he is batting .250 with a team-high 10 doubles, two home runs, 22 RBI and nine runs. He recently tallied a career-high six RBI going 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, home run and run scored against Rhodes on April 10.

He added three-RBI performance in the Centre's 10-6 win over Berry on March 19, tallying two hits in five at-bats with a double and home run and two runs.

Chandler was a force out of the bullpen during his rookie campaign with the Colonels, tallying a team-high five wins (5-2), good for a tie for sixth in the SAA. He posted a 4.50 ERA in 16 appearances with one start in the regular season, working 26 innings with 25 strikeouts and 10 walks.

He earned his first collegiate win with three scoreless innings of relief in Centre's 1-0 win over Principia on February 27, fanning six batters and walking one without allowing a single hit.

Chandler collected his first SAA victory with two innings of scoreless relief in a 5-3 triumph over Oglethorpe on March 25, recording three strikeouts with a walk and allowing just one hit.
