No. 20 Colonels Roll Past Berea 9-0

Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The No. 20 Centre women's soccer team posted a 9-0 non-conference victory over intra-state foe Berea on a damp Wednesday night at Hillside Field. The Colonels boost their record to 9-1-2 with the victory, while the Mountaineers fall to 2-6-1 on the season.

Six of Centre's nine goals came in the first half, as senior forward Destinie Graves (Lexington, Ky.) got the scoring going with a pair of quick goals followed by an assist on a goal by senior forward Megan Sherwood (Crestwood, Ky.) to put the Colonels on top 4-0.

Graves' second goal was assisted by freshman forward Meghan Paynter (Danville, Ky.). Graves now has 11 goals on the season and six assists.

A goal by junior midfielder Amber Cowell (Culver, Ind.) gave Centre a 4-0 lead, before sophomore forward Keeghan Francis (Knoxville, Tenn.) found the back of the net twice to extend the Colonels' advantage to 6-0. Freshman forward Alana Hughes (Lexington, Ky.) assisted Francis' first score, with an assist by junior defender Mackenzie Kern (Cincinnati, Ohio) on the second goal.

In the second half, freshman midfielder Jenna Wolfe (Villa Hills, Ky.) tacked onto the Colonel lead with her first career goal off the assist by freshman midfielder Annika Struthwolf (Tuscaloosa, Ala.).

Junior midfielder Audrey Moreng (Fort Collins, Colo.) and senior midfielder Madeleine Loftus (Winter Park, Fla.) then each scored their first career goals to push the Centre lead to 9-0.

Senior goalkeeper Olivia Alford (Louisville, Ky.) minded the net for the first half, making one save, before junior Sarah Youkilis (Lexington, Ky.) took over in the second half, contributing a pair of stops for Centre.

The Colonels outshot the Mountaineers 37-5 in the win, including a 18-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Centre returns to Southern Athletic Association (SAA) action on Friday night hosting Berry at 7:30 p.m. at Hillside Field.
