Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's soccer team posted its fourth shutout win of the season on Friday night with a 1-0 victory over visiting Berry in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest at Hillside Field. The Colonels improved to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in SAA play with the triumph, while the Vikings dropped to 5-5 and 1-1, respectively.
With the win, Centre matched its win total from the 2015 season with seven more matches to play in the 2016 regular season.
Berry came out firing with four shots in the first 12 minutes of action, but Colonel sophomore goalkeeper Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) made three saves to preserve the 0-0 tie, including a diving stop that bounced off the crossbar.
From that point on, Centre held the Vikings to just five shots in the match.
The Colonels and Berry were knotted at 0-0 until the 68th minute, when junior defender Jesse DiLuzio's (North Woodmore, N.Y.) found the back of the net off the double assist by junior midfielder Harrison Dunn (Lexington, Ky.) and senior defender Henry Lynch (Nashville, Tenn.) to put Centre on top 1-0. Dunn connected with Lynch off a corner kick before Lynch's header pass set DiLuzio for the score.
That would prove to be the difference in the SAA matchup, as the Colonels dominated possession for the remainder of the contest.
The Colonels held a 21-9 advantage in shots in the match, including a 14-2 edge in the second half.
Centre also tallied seven corner kicks compared to the Vikings' three.
Senior midfielder Phil Shehan (Orlando, Fla.) recorded a team-high four shots on the night.
Spade finished with five saves between the pipes in the win.
The Colonels return to action with a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon, hosting Maryville (Tenn.) at 12 p.m. at Hillside Field. The Scots own a 7-2 record on the season following at 4-1 win over Covenant on Friday night.
