Centre men's soccer falls 2-0 at Maryville

Box Score

Man of the Match - Alexander Garuba

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – A pair of second half goals lifted the Maryville Scots to a 2-0 victory against Centre Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels drop to 5-4-1 overall with the loss, while the host Scots improve their record to 9-1.

Maryville broke a closely-contested draw in the 75th minute, when Johnny Rakhmonberdiev's free kick – although stopped by junior keeper Bailey Spade (Lexington, Ky.) – was deemed to have crossed the goalline by the sideline official.

The Scots added an insurance tally five minutes later on Bret Thomas' goal, making it 2-0 with just over 10 minutes to play.

Junior Alexander Garuba (Atlanta), who led Centre with seven total shots, had two on goal in the last stretch, but both were turned aside by Maryville's Ryan Jorgensen.

The two sides were evenly split in the box score, finishing with five corners apiece while Centre out-shot Maryville 14-11.

Spade finished with two saves for Centre.

The Colonels return to their Southern Athletic Association slate next week, traveling to face Millsaps Friday for an 8:30 p.m. ET kick.
