@CentreWomensLax Beats BSC 15-5 for Third Straight Win

Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's lacrosse team avenged their only conference loss from 2016 as they defeated the Birmingham Southern Panthers by a score of 15-5 on Saturday morning at the South Campus Field. The win marked the third straight for the Colonels to open the season, all by double digits.

The Colonels got off to a strong start, going up 2-0 on goals by senior Ellen Resinger (Louisville, Ky.) and junior Haden Gibbons (Chattanooga, Tenn.). Birmingham Southern quickly responded with a pair of goals in a 40-second span to tie the score with just under 19 minutes left, but from that point forward, the Colonels blitzed the Panthers for the rest of the half.

Over the last 13:21 of the first half, Centre outscored BSC 7-0. Junior Hannah Bellamah (Loveland, Ohio) scored four goals during the run, with Gibbons scoring twice and junior Colleen Jackson (Gaithersburg, Md.) also adding a goal. Bellamah, Gibbons and sophomore Hannah Hardy (Louisville, Ky.) all recorded assists during the barrage and the Colonels entered the halftime break with a 9-2 lead.

Haden Gibbons continued her excellent game early in the second half with a free position goal to make it an 8-0 Colonels run before the Panthers' Alyssa Gentzyel broke the string with a goal at the 23-minute mark. Centre responded with three quick goals in the next minute, courtesy of Hardy, Bellamah and Gibbons.

Trailing by ten, BSC got on the board next with a goal by Jade Cox, but Centre quickly answered as Jackson converted on a free position shot with just under ten minutes. The Panthers' Natalie Daniel scored just over a minute later, but Gibbons scored her sixth and final goal of the contest to cap off the scoring and preserve the ten-goal win.

The six goals for Haden Gibbons marked both a game high and a career high. Hannah Bellamah finished with five goals and a game high two assists.

In addition to her goal to open the scoring, Ellen Resinger led all players with seven ground balls and seven draw controls.

Junior Natalie Marek (Louisville, Ky.) picked up the win for Centre in goal, recording 13 saves on 18 opportunities.

The Colonels outshot the Panthers by a 37-22 margin and held a 25-18 advantage in shots on goal.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Colonels as they will face the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets on Sunday at noon. Sunday's game will mark the first matchup between Centre and Baldwin Wallace.
