DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre men's tennis team earned a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Covenant before falling to NAIA No. 9 Campbellsville by a score of 9-0 in a pair of non-conference matchups on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels move to 3-3 on the season with the split, while the Scots drop to 3-5 and the Tigers stay perfect at 4-0.
Centre fell behind 2-1 in doubles play against Covenant with the duo of freshmen Max Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) and Adam Slone (Lexington, Ky.) earning an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 slot.
In singles action, freshman Matthew Ko (Nicholasville, Ky.) shifted the momentum in the Colonels' favor with a 6-4, 7-5 triumph at the No. 3 position.
Slone and Middleton also picked up singles wins for Centre, while senior Caleb Smith (Morristown, Tenn.) clinched the match for the Colonels with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.
Centre featured four freshmen in the lineup in the win over the Scots.
The Colonels return to action with another non-conference matchup against NCAA Division II Bellarmine tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET in Danville.
