DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's tennis team split a pair of non-conference matchups on Saturday afternoon, defeating Covenant 8-1 before falling by a score of 7-2 to Campbellsville.
The Colonels move to 3-4 on the year, while the Scots, ranked 18th in the region, drop to 2-5 and the Tigers boost their record to 1-0.
Centre jumped ahead 2-1 after doubles play as the tandem of junior Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Neha Rao (London, Ky.) earned an 8-1 at top doubles while the duo of senior Courtney Delong (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Zena Maddux (Hopkinsville, Ky.) won by a score of 8-2.
The Colonels then swept singles play from Covenant, including a 6-2, 6-3 victory by sophomore Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) at the No. 3 spot and a 6-4, 6-2 triumph by freshman Abigail Kent (College Station, Texas) at No. 4 singles.
Against Campbellsville, Rao and Williams picked up another doubles victory, while sophomore Mackenzie Snow (Elizabethtown, Ky.) collected a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
Rao and Williams each closed the day with a combined 3-1 ledger to pace the Colonels.
Centre caps its homestand with an 11 a.m. ET match against Division II Bellarmine tomorrow in Danville.
