DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's tennis team extended its winning streak to eight matches with a 6-0 triumph over visiting Rhodes on Friday evening at the Centre Tennis Courts. The Colonels clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament with the conference win over the Lynx.
Centre improved to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the SAA with the victory.
The Colonels stayed hot in doubles play, as the tandem of sophomore Neha Rao (London, Ky.) and junior Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) picked up an 8-3 triumph at top doubles after sophomore Abigail Kent (College Station, Texas) and sophomore Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) earned an 8-1 win at the No. 2 position.
Senior Courtney DeLong (Louisville, Ky.) pushed the Centre lead to 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles, before Kent clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
The Colonels cap the regular season on Saturday hosting Hendrix in an SAA matchup slated for 10am ET.
