CONWAY, Ark. (CentreColonels.com) - The Centre women's tennis team blanked Hendrix by a score of 5-0 on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament, advancing to Saturday's semifinals against No. 3 Oglethorpe.
The Colonels improved to 13-6 on the season with the win, while the Warriors cap the year with a 9-9 ledger.
Centre swept doubles play to open the match, with the duos of sophomore Neha Rao (London, Ky.) and junior Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) as well as seniors Courtney DeLong (Louisville, Ky.) and Mary Chapin Snow (Elizabethtown, Ky.) each picked up 8-2 wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively.
Sophomores Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) and Abigail Kent (College Station, Texas) earned a 9-8 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Rao collected a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the top position while Kent bested her opponent by a score of 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 position.
Saturday's semifinal matchup with Oglethorpe is slated for a noon CT start at Burns Park in North Little Rock, Ark.
