DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's soccer righted the ship Friday night, defeating visiting Baldwin Wallace, 2-0, in their first match of the 28th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic at Amend Field.

The Colonels improve to 3-1 with the win, dropping the Yellow Jackets to 0-3 overall. Centre is also a pristine 3-0 at home to start the season.

Both sides seemed evenly matched throughout the opening half hour, with neither able to gain a leg up.

Senior Brad Nordin (Paintsville, Ky.) and sophomore Nick Mazzarella (Danielson, Conn.) made immediate impacts after entering the match, however. It was just a matter of minutes after subbing in that Nordin corralled a pass from Mazzarella in the box and buried a goal in the left side of the goal.

The score broke what was an otherwise closely contested first period.

In the second, it was freshman Royce Pope (Tampa, Fla.) that doubled Centre's advantage despite being down a man.

Senior Ian Williams (Versailles, Ky.) sent a rocket of a shot on goal from distance, and Baldwin Wallace's goalie – although able to save the goal – failed to maintain possession.

Pope was in perfect position to send the rebound in for his third goal of the season, helping put Friday's match out of reach.

Centre finished with 18 shots to the Yellow Jackets' 11, and also had seven corners to the visitor's three.

Junior Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) totaled three saves between the pipes for the Colonels.

Centre next faces fifth-ranked Kenyon, which defeated Spalding 1-0 in Friday's opening match. The two sides meet at 7 p.m. Saturday at Amend Field.
